The signature dueling coaster in Celestial Park was originally scheduled to stay closed through April 5, but Universal surprised everyone by reopening it early. If you’re heading to the park today, expect a wait — the line was running around 75 minutes at last check.
This refurbishment turned into quite the saga. What started as a quick maintenance closure from February 19-22 stretched on for weeks, eventually getting extended four times. The coaster spent a total of about six weeks in the shop.
High winds during testing caused both trains to “valley” — that’s coaster speak for getting stuck on the track instead of making it back to the station. Universal had to bring in a crane to lift the trains free, and the ride was closed for three days after that.
Stardust Racers is notable for being Universal’s first dueling coaster since Dragon Challenge closed at Islands of Adventure in 2017. That ride got reimagined as Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, which remains one of the most popular attractions in all of Orlando.
