Universal Orlando Resort is constantly evolving, and it can be hard to keep up with all the changes. From new themed lands to rumored ride closures, here’s the latest news and updates from the popular theme park destination.
DreamWorks Land Delights Visitors
DreamWorks Land has finally opened its doors at Universal Studios Florida, bringing with it immersive areas based on beloved properties like Shrek, Trolls, and Kung Fu Panda. This new addition utilizes the former Kid Zone area while also adding some unique touches. Make sure to check out the new Imagination Celebration show, which is a vast improvement over the previous DreamWorks destination. Plus, keep an eye out for ET Adventure, which reportedly received ride system improvements during a recent refurbishment.
Ghostbusters Take Over Universal Studios
But DreamWorks Land isn’t the only new offering this year at Universal Studios Florida. The highly anticipated Ghostbusters franchise is making its triumphant return to the park with two new experiences. The first is a brand new parade, set to debut on July 3rd, featuring a 16-foot Stay Puft Marshmallow Man float. And for all you die-hard fans, make sure to visit the retro-themed Ghostbusters tribute store in the Hollywood section of the park. But that’s not all—rumors are swirling that a new interactive special effects show featuring The Ghostbusters may also be in the works, taking over the former Blue Man Group theater.
Rumors Surrounding Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit
Another rumor that has been gaining traction over the past year is the potential closure of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida. Although Universal has not officially confirmed this, many signs are pointing to the iconic roller coaster being replaced with a brand new attraction as early as mid-2025. Some clues include the removal of most of the onboard songs and the lack of a returning banner on its lift hill after being taken down for a storm. According to insider sources, the new ride may be an Intamin steel-launched spinning coaster, similar to the one coming to Universal Studios Hollywood as part of the Fast and Furious Hollywood drift experience. However, due to delays with the new coaster’s construction in Hollywood, it’s possible that Orlando’s version may also be pushed to 2026.
Excitement Builds for Potential Pokémon-Themed Ride
Speaking of rumors, there’s one that has Universal fans buzzing with excitement – a potential Pokémon-themed ride in the works. It’s believed that this ride would replace The Simpsons Ride (which has a contract until 2028) and would be part of a larger Springfield replacement project set to be completed by 2030. While the exact details of the ride are still a mystery, one theory is that it may use technology similar to the upcoming Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios Japan. But with The Simpsons still drawing in crowds, it’s possible that we may see it stick around a bit longer before being replaced.
Lost Continent’s Zelda Makeover
Meanwhile, over at Islands of Adventure, the Lost Continent section is rumored to be getting a Zelda-themed makeover. However, plans for the new land have reportedly gone back to the drawing board multiple times, and there are currently no permits or plans for the demolition of the abandoned Sinbad theater and Poseidon’s Fury buildings. While this project is still in its early stages, it’s definitely something to keep an eye on for all you Legend of Zelda fans.
Epic Universe Preview Center
And finally, there’s been some news regarding the highly anticipated Epic Universe theme park. While there’s still no official opening date, Universal has announced that a preview center will be opening in CityWalk this month. Guests will have the opportunity to view a large-scale model of the entire park and use augmented reality technology to explore attractions. Plus, there will be special photo ops and merchandise available for purchase.
So whether you’re a fan of DreamWorks, Ghostbusters, Pokémon, or The Legend of Zelda, there’s definitely something exciting in store for you at Universal Orlando Resort. With constant updates and rumors swirling, it’s clear that there’s no slowing down for the popular theme park destination.
