Mel’s Drive-In Reopens at Universal Studios Orlando with a Brand New Menu: A Review

Universal Studios Orlando is known for its thrilling rides, magical experiences, and delicious food. From the iconic butterbeer at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to the decadent milkshakes at Toothsome Chocolate Emporium, the park never fails to satisfy our cravings. And now, after months of closure for refurbishment, one of the most famous restaurants in the park has finally reopened with a brand new menu – Mel’s Drive-In.

Mel’s Drive-In has been a fan favorite in Universal Studios for years, with its retro 1950s theme and classic American diner food. But many visitors have longed for a change in the menu, and their prayers have been answered.

The newly revamped menu offers a variety of options, from burgers to shakes and even some unique pies. So, we decided to try everything and give you our honest opinions about it. Buckle up, and let’s take a drive down memory lane at Mel’s Drive-In.

A Closer Look at Mel’s Drive-In’s Revamped Menu: Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches and Hot Dogs

First up on our list is the Big Bopper burger. This burger is a barbecue bacon cheeseburger with onion rings on top, and it is massive. As soon as we took our first bite, we could tell that this was not the same old burger from before.

The onion rings were crispy, and the bacon was perfectly cooked. However, we did find that there was not enough barbecue sauce on the burger, which may be an issue for those who love their burgers saucy. But overall, it was a delicious burger and definitely one of our top picks from the new menu.

Next up was the chili cheese hot dog. We must admit that this one was a sacrifice for our team since not everyone enjoys hot dogs. However, for those who do, this chili cheese dog is a game-changer. Unlike the usual dark and meaty chili, this one had beans and chopped onions, giving it an elevated taste.

The only thing we would have liked to see more of was cheese. But then again, that might just be a personal preference. And the fries? They were almost like the ones you get at Burger King, which is never a bad thing.

We couldn’t wait to try the grilled chicken sandwich, and it did not disappoint. The thick chicken breast topped with avocado ranch was simply scrumptious. However, we couldn’t help but compare it to Popeyes’ famous chicken sandwich, which is one of our all-time favorites. But still, this was the first time we had a chicken sandwich in the park that we actually liked. So, if you’re a fan of chicken sandwiches, Mel’s Drive-In is definitely worth a visit.

Sweet Treats and Comfort Eats: Pies and Milkshakes

After indulging in savory dishes, it was time for something sweet. Mel’s offers a variety of pies, including strawberry lemonade pie and cookie and cream pie. We decided to try the strawberry lemonade pie first, and it was surprisingly good. The crust was buttery and flaky, and the filling had just the right amount of tartness. However, our favorite was the chocolate cookies and cream pie. It was rich and creamy, with a delicious chocolate ganache on top.

And what’s a visit to Mel’s Drive-In without trying their famous shakes? We tried all three, the vanilla milkshake, strawberry milkshake, and chocolate shakes, and they were all equally delicious. They were thick and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness. Perfect for enjoying on a hot day at the park.

Thematic Dining at Its Best: The Aesthetic Overhaul of Mel’s Drive-In

Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the new menu at Mel’s Drive-In. Not only did they revamp their classic items, but they also added some unique dishes that are sure to become fan favorites.

The atmosphere of the restaurant remains unchanged, with its 1950s theme and jukebox music playing in the background. However, the food has definitely improved, making it a must-visit spot for any food lover at Universal Studios Orlando.

If you’re planning a trip to the park, make sure to add Mel’s Drive-In to your list of places to eat. And if you’re wondering about the prices, don’t worry; they are still reasonable and won’t break the bank. Plus, with the portion sizes they offer, you’ll definitely get your money’s worth.

In conclusion, Mel’s Drive-In at Universal Studios Orlando has come back stronger and better than ever. With mouth-watering burgers, delicious shakes, and unique pies, it is sure to satisfy any craving. So, what are you waiting for? Make your way to Mel’s Drive-In and indulge in some delicious food that will take you back in time to the 1950s. Trust us; you won’t be disappointed.
