5 Biggest Ride Changes and Updates at Universal Orlando Resort 7

Our first stop brings us to Marvel Superhero Island, where we’ll find one of the park’s most iconic attractions: The Incredible Hulk Coaster. This roller coaster has been a fan favorite since Universal Studios Florida opened in 1999. However, in 2015, the coaster closed for a full refurbishment that would completely transform it into The Incredible Hulk Coaster 2.0.

The ride story received a complete overhaul, now placing riders as volunteers at General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross’ facility. The launch tunnel also underwent a change, going from a bright purple to a sleek black, and on-board audio was added for an even more thrilling experience. But perhaps the most significant change was the replacement of every piece of the track with brand new steel, resulting in a smoother ride and eliminating the famous Hulk “Roar” that could be heard throughout the park.

2) The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man in HD

Staying in Marvel Superhero Island, we make our way over to The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man ride. This classic attraction has been wowing guests since 1999 with its immersive experience and cutting-edge technology. However, in 2012, the ride received a significant upgrade that took it from good to extraordinary.

The film projectors were replaced with 4K digital projectors, and the animation was given an HD refresh. The result? A more detailed and lifelike adventure through the world of Spider-Man. Plus, keep an eye out for Stan Lee’s four cameo appearances throughout the ride—can you spot them all?

3) Skull Island: Reign of Kong

Next on our list is a ride that wasn’t really a “change” but rather a complete transformation. Before, the iconic King Kong attraction occupied this area at Universal Studios Florida since 1990. But in 2016, it was replaced with the thrilling Skull Island: Reign of Kong.

This ride takes you on an adventure through the mysterious and dangerous island of King Kong, complete with impressive animatronics, special effects, and a fast-paced ride vehicle. While we miss the classic King Kong, there’s no denying that this new ride is a must-visit for any thrill-seeker.

4) Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey

We now head to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade to explore one of the most talked-about rides at Universal Orlando – Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. This attraction has been captivating guests since it opened in 2010, but it has gone through some significant changes over the years.

Originally, the ride used a combination of film projection and animatronics to take guests on a journey through Hogwarts Castle. However, in 2017, it received a major upgrade with 4K digital projectors and improved animation. The result is an even more breathtaking experience where you truly feel like you’re flying alongside Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

5) Rip Ride Rockit’s Track Replacement

Last but certainly not least, we make our way to Rip Ride Rockit, Universal Orlando’s only roller coaster, where you can choose your own soundtrack for the ride. While this attraction hasn’t gone through any major changes since it opened in 2009, there was one significant update that you may not have noticed.

In 2016, the entire track for Rip Ride Rockit was replaced with brand new steel, giving guests a smoother and quieter ride experience. So now, when you’re singing along to your favorite tune at the top of your lungs, you can also appreciate the enhanced track that’s carrying you through the loop-de-loops.

Universal Orlando is constantly evolving and bringing us new and exciting experiences. But let’s not forget about the ride changes that have taken place over the years, refreshing some of the most beloved attractions at the resort. So next time you visit Universal Orlando, keep an eye out for these transformations and appreciate the hard work that goes into making our favorite rides even better.
