Are you ready to embark on an epic adventure? Universal has recently announced new details for one of the five worlds in their highly anticipated theme park, Epic Universe. And fans of How to Train Your Dragon are in for a treat!
Set to open in 2025, How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk will transport visitors into the magical world of Vikings and dragons. The 15 1/2-acre land will feature three rides, a theater show, a play area, and meet-and-greets with popular characters from the beloved film franchise.
Let’s take a closer look at all the exciting attractions and experiences that await in this fantastical world.
The How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk Land
40-foot-tall, fire-breathing statues in a lagoon will greet you as you enter How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk. Look up, and you will see coaster trains gliding along the surface of the water. The land itself will be dotted with 30 animated and static dragon houses, representing 17 unique dragon species.
Hiccup’s Wing Gliders
Get ready to take flight on a thrilling family coaster – Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. With speeds up to 45 mph, this coaster allows riders to join Hiccup and Toothless on an adventure through the sky. But be warned, Toothless may launch you off prematurely, resulting in a low-altitude ride instead of soaring high.
Dragon Racers Rally
For a more intense ride experience, hop on the two spinning skyfly rides – Dragon Racers Rally. The ride reaches a height of 67 feet and allows riders to control the intensity of their experience. Plus, with new concept art, we get a taste of the grand stands and seating areas where spectators can watch riders soar through the air.
Fyre Drill
Burk’s Fire School has been transformed into a watery interactive boat battle – Fyre Drill. The ride has no height requirement, making it accessible to all ages. Riders can battle fire-breathing targets and other boats with water cannons while taking in the sights of dragons all around them.
Viking Training Camp
Kids and families can explore the colorful and interactive Viking Training Camp. With multiple towers, an agility course, interactive games, and more, there are plenty of activities to keep adventurers of all ages entertained.
The Untrainable Dragon
For a truly magical experience, catch the live theater show – The Untrainable Dragon. Loosely based on the show at Universal Studios Beijing, this new version will feature Toothless flying overhead while Vikings attempt to tame a new dragon on the Isle of Berk. After the show, you can also meet your favorite characters from the film.
Dining
Hungry after all the excitement? Mead Hall is the land’s main dining location, offering an upscale quick-service experience. With a variety of meat, fish, sandwiches, and desserts, there’s something for everyone. And don’t forget about the assortment of meads, ciders, and ales to wash it all down.
Shopping
Need a souvenir to remember your adventure? The concept art for the interior of the land’s candy store looks tantalizing with its assortment of treats. And rumor has it that visitors will also be able to purchase adoptable baby dragons that can interact with the land’s larger dragons.
While there is no mention of other dining locations or shops in today’s official announcement, we can expect to learn more details as the opening date gets closer.
But Wait, There’s More
In addition to all these exciting experiences, there are some hints about what may still be to come. Universal mentions the possibility of seeing dragons flying overhead and interact with guests. Could this mean we will see some sort of robotic drone technology at work, bringing the dragons in How to Train Your Dragon to life?
Plus, Universal has a track record of incorporating interactive elements in their theme parks – from wands in The Wizarding World to PowerUp bands in Super Nintendo World. And it seems that visitors may have the opportunity to purchase and interact with small electronic baby dragons in the land. These baby dragons are said to make noises, perform tricks, and interact with the larger dragons throughout the area.
So get ready to spread your wings and soar through the sky at How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk in Universal’s Epic Universe. With thrilling rides, immersive experiences, and meet-and-greets with your favorite characters, this world is sure to be a hit with fans of all ages.
