The Grand Opening of Universal Orlando’s Mega Movie Parade
The anticipation had been building for weeks, and finally, the day had arrived. It was the grand opening of Universal Orlando’s Mega Movie Parade, and I couldn’t wait to see what all the hype was about. The park had been teasing us with sneak peeks of the new floats and characters, promising a truly immersive experience. And let me tell you, they did not disappoint.
As I made my way to Universal Studios Florida on opening night, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement. This parade was the first of its kind at the park, and I was lucky enough to be there on its debut. The energy around me was infectious – everyone was eager to see what Universal had in store for us.
Before even entering the park, I was greeted by a massive minion promoting the new Despicable Me 4 movie. It was just a small taste of what was to come inside. As I made my way through the gates, I couldn’t help but notice another sign – “Our newest parade is in technical rehearsal.” My heart sank a little, worried that something may go wrong with this highly anticipated event.
But as I walked through the park and stopped at the new merchandise stand for the parade, my worries began to fade away. The friendly staff member showed me the interactive bubble wands that would be used during the parade. Each float had an “interactor,” and by pressing a button on the wand, you could make your bubble wand react to each float in the parade. It was a brilliant addition to the experience and created a sense of immersion amongst guests who could interact with each other’s wands.
At 6:00 pm sharp, it was time for showtime. The weather had been looking ominous during this time of the day, and there were rumors that not all of the floats were functioning properly. But as they say in the entertainment industry, the show must go on. And boy, am I glad it did.
Back to the Future: DeLorean and Marty McFly Take the Stage
The parade kicked off with a bang as the beloved DeLorean from Back to the Future made its way down the street. As a fan of the franchise, I couldn’t help but sing along to the iconic theme song. And just like that, I was transported to Hill Valley.
Sing Float: Rosita, Gunter, and Johnny Perform
Following that was the Sing float, which showcased the lead characters, Rosita, Gunter, and Johnny, carrying out their performances and singing their hearts out.
Minions Throughout Time: Variety of Minions
Next up was the Minions float, which was dedicated to the theme of Minions Throughout Time. A variety of minions from a variety of decades were displayed on this giant float. Including a King minion from England along with his noble minion guards.
Kung Fu Panda: Po and Tigress Show Off Their Noodle Cart
Po and Tigress appeared as standing in front of a Mr. Pings Noodle Cart in the following float, which was themed after the Kung Fu Panda franchise.
Trolls Float: Poppy, Branch, and Guy Diamond Entertain the Crowd
Up next is the Trolls float with Poppy, Branch and Guy Diamond along with the trippy caterbus.
Ghostbusters Float: Battling Gozer and Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man
The next Mega Movie Parade float was the famous Ghostbusters scene with fighting Gozer with the huge Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man on top! You can also see Slimmer eating hot dogs from a cart on the side of the float.
E.T. and Elliot: “Phone Home” and Flying Bikes
Next up was another classic – E.T. and Elliot on their bikes flying over the moon. The roar of the crowd was deafening as we all sang along to “Phone Home.” It was clear that Universal had put a lot of thought and effort into these floats and wanted to appeal to all generations of movie lovers.
Jaws: Eating the crowd up!
Next up is the Jaws float which includes a 4th of July (how timely) marching band from Amity Island along with stilt walkers, baton twirlers and drum ensemble. The Amity Mayor and main character Brody are all here.
Jurassic Park T-Rex: Massive Dinosaur and Baby Raptors Thrill Audiences
But perhaps my favorite float of all was the Jurassic Park T-Rex. As a huge fan of dinosaurs, I was in awe as this massive creature roared and lunged towards destroyed Jurassic Park vehicle. And let’s not forget about the baby raptors chasing after guests on the streets. It was quite a sight to see.
Performers and Stilt Walkers: Outstanding Talent Enhances Parade
As I looked around, I could see that everyone around me was having just as much fun as I was. The parade had been going on for about 20 minutes now, and there wasn’t a single frown in sight. And it wasn’t just because of the incredible floats – it was also because of the performers accompanying them. From one-wheeled BMX riders to stilt walkers and dancers, I was constantly in awe of their skills and energy. The performers within each float and the dancers on the streets were truly outstanding.
As the parade came to an end, I couldn’t believe how quickly the time had gone by. It felt like I had been transported to different worlds and back in just under 30 minutes. And just as I was about to leave my spot and head out of the park, the sky opened up, and it started pouring rain. I couldn’t help but feel grateful for choosing the perfect spot to watch the parade.
Reflection on the Parade: Memories and Future Expectations
Walking back to my car, I couldn’t stop smiling. The Universal Mega Movie Parade had exceeded all of my expectations. It was a unique and immersive experience that truly brought movie magic to life. Even though there were a few minor technical difficulties, they didn’t take away from the overall show.
Conclusion: Universal Orlando’s Mega Movie Parade Exceeds Expectations
As I drove away from Universal Orlando, I couldn’t help but think about all the memories that were made during that parade. I knew that this was just the beginning, and I couldn’t wait to see what else Universal had in store for us in the future. The Mega Movie Parade had set the bar high, and I couldn’t wait to come back and experience it all over again. Thank you, Universal Orlando, for showing us that when it comes to park entertainment, you truly know how to take it to a whole new level.
